Diamond Racing is regarded as one of the very best manufacturers of aftermarket race pistons. We are pleased to offer their coated and uncoated Forged Pistons Kit for the 3800 Series II motor. Aftermarket forged pistons are a very-specialized modification, and are a big investment. Engine builders would say this is a small price to pay for the quality, reliability, reassurance, and performance they provide. But instead of simply stating “you need these because this is what we use” and expect everyone to follow, we would prefer that you to read the following technical write-up and make your decision based on facts and knowledge.

Diamond Racing has developed their Forged Pistons to address all of these problems to eliminate piston failure. First off, they use a forged process when creating their pistons, which results in a much stronger metal. Not only that, but they use a 2618 aluminum alloy which is much stronger than stock, can handle large amounts of boost and ignition timing, and has minimal expansion.

They have also moved the first ring groove farther down on the piston to give a thicker, stronger piston top. Then to top it off (pun intended), they offer an optional ceramic thermal coating on the piston tops which reflects the heat and reduces heat soak on the pistons and the piston skirts are moly coated for scuff resistance. We STRONGLY recommend the coating if you are running a 3.0” pulley or smaller without an intercooler, increasing the ignition timing above the factory levels, and/or running nitrous oxide.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
- Diamond Racing Pistons also fit non-supercharged L36 engines, as long as supercharged L67 or L32 connecting rods are used.
